Reading Goal for 2008
Last year I read a few books, more than I have in a long time. This year I have set an aggressive goal of reading 20 books by the end of the year. Yeah that is a lot but it really is less than two a month. I have already read two of them and I have listed them over on the right of this page with links their respective Amazon pages. Some I will review some I won't but if you ever want to know about one just let me know. I would imagine that if any of them are bad I will let you know. I am currently reading "Your Best Life Now" by Joel Osteen plus a few more coming in from Amazon this week. I will reach that goal of 20 and maybe even surpass it.

Are you ready? Prove it.
It is always fun to watch others select talent. Look at the Falcons they just hired a new head coach, one that has absolutely no track record of being a head coach. He has flown under the radar but none the less he is the new head coach (I guess he interviews well). I give credit to Blank for one thing, he does take chances on unknowns but what about those knowns we don't think about? Go back to when Dan Reeves was let go, we had an iterim coach by the name of Wade Phillips (now the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys) he picked up the pieces and won several games. He was not even given a chance to get the Falcons head coaching job as they ended up hiring Jim Mora and we know how that turned out. When people are put into an interim role we see exactly what they are made of, will they just do the minimum to get by or will they step up and become a true leader? Time always tells. Recently Bill Stewart took over the West Virgina football program on an interim basis after Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan. Stewart had been promised a job with Coach Rod at UM but he chose to finish out his opportunity with WVU before going to UM. Coach Stewart made the most of his interim role; he rallied players, he rallied fans, he showed leadership, and he showed tenacity, Guess what? WVU went into the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl as huge underdogs and beat the Oklahoma Sooners, now Bill Stewart is the permanent head coach at WVU. Prior to his hiring the administration spoke to the players, they listened to assistant coaches, and they observed what he was doing. They saw his true dedication, courage, and his intestinal fortitude not until then did they offer him the head coaching job. Remember Coach Stewart had another job awaiting him, he could have just done the minimum but he made a choice to prove himself. Could you imagine WVU hiring him had he just done enough to get by?

Book Review - AWESOME!
I recently read "How to Be Like Walt" written by Pat Willams, it was loaned to me and it was so good I purchased my own copy. The book reads almost like a biography of Walt but really speaks on his business ideas and his free thinking. The is a lot about his leadership style, demand for perfection, being different than everyone else, and plussing. Walt was someone that would not take no for an answer and if he couldn't find someone to do what he wanted, he would just do it himself (and do it better). The book reads well, I really liked the "Lessons Learned" at the end of each chapter. I think the best part of the reading experience was I saw a lot of Walt in me, that was too cool. I give it 5 st.....uhhhh I mean 5 Mickeys!

Bring it On Just Keeps Bringin' It!!!
Oh yeah baby part 4 is out as was on ABC Family last night. If you have read this blog for a while you know I like the Bring It On Trilogy and rank it well ahead of that other trilogy about some stupid ring. Anyway you can see that the trilogy was so good that they had to make a 4th movie. I saw it last night and it was bangin'. The cheering was good, the plot was about team building, and even the music was good. The only real downside to the movie was they filmed it at Universal Orlando as opposed to Disney, but they had good reason as it tied into the elaborate plot. Last night I was bringin' it on for about 4 hours as ABC Fam showed "All or Nothing" right before they showed "In It to Win It". I am gonna finally have to buy all of the DVDs, maybe they will come out with a special edition! I can only hope.

Happy Winnie the Pooh Day!
To stick with the "holiday season" today is Winnie the Pooh day. I almost forgot! Here is a little about this wonderful day:
- Winnie the Pooh Day is an opportunity to enjoy your favorite bear and all of his friends. This day was created to celebrate the birth of A.A .Milne in 1882. He was an author of children's story books, and created Winnie the Pooh and his friends. Winnie's pals include Christopher Robin, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, and Roo.
So there you have it another day to celebrate so get out there today, eat a little honey, read a Pooh book, or click here to play some Pooh games.

I Guess I Really Don't Watch TV?
I just read the Golden Globe winners online and realized that I don't watch much TV or at least "mainstream" TV. Of the eleven nominees for best tv show (drama and comedy) I have only watch one episode of one of them and that was House. Good show but I don't want to commit to having to watch it every week. I do watch the following; ANTM, The Apprentice, Power Rangers (Jungle Fury starts next month!), The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and I will watch at American Idol. Oh yeah I have never seen 24 or Heroes either. I am actually proud to know that I do not watch a ton of TV like I used too.

This Made Me Laugh
I saw this on Boortz's site today under the Top Ten Thoughts for '08:
- Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.
Perfect Day for today's 'holiday'
Today is Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day and with it being wet outside what a better day to celebrate? (as I write this the sun is coming out so hurry and splash someone!)
I love the holiday season!!!

I Can See!!!!
Last night I picked up my glasses and low and behold I can see! That's right the world is totally different now. Funny thing is I have needed glasses for years and I knew it but my eyes weren't really that bad. I mean it wasn't like I couldn't read or anything. However I could no longer see the names on the back of jerseys at football games, so I knew it was gettin' bad. So for Christmas Melissa gave me glasses as a gift. We went to get the eye exam and that's when reality kicked in. You know when they do the whole "1, 2, ok, 1, 2..." thing. Then the doc moved that aparatus from my eyes and the letters were pretty blurry. Then came time to pick frames, I think they had 16,284 different frames to try on. That all brings me to yesterday, they called to tell me they were ready and I went in and got'em. They said it would take me about a week to really get adjusted to them and to wear them all of the time (except sleeping and in the shower). It sure is cool how crisp everything is now. Street signs are clear (did you know the speed limit was only 70 on I-85 N), TV was better last night, and this morning Greg 2.0's school was bright and very colorful like I had never seen. I wonder how cool would Disney World have been had I been able to see better.....guess I better get back quick huh?

Picking Schools....growing up fast
I have been thinking about schools for Greg 2.0 as I do not want to bring child abuse upon him by subjecting him to government run 'education'. He currently attends Primrose and will start their private pre-K in the fall this year but I figured I had better start thinking about the future. I have looked at many schools and even spoke to a parent about two schools. I can see this is going to be a long process but should be well worth it in the long run. I picked up the current issue of Atlanta Parent magazine that has a ton of info about how to pick a school and what to look for, good stuff. The humbling part is I can't believe that I am already looking at this stuff. When the statement is made "they grow up so fast" it is way too true. I am loving every minute of it but I can't believe he is growing this quick.
The Holiday Season 'Stresses'....get over it
I have read other blogs listened to many friends and read articles about how 'bad' the holiday season is from T-Giving all the way to New Year's Day. People complain about how many places they have to go to how many gifts they have to get, etc. Well let's look a little closer at this so called problem. We are all adults here and are able to make our own decisions, no one is making us go to all of the parties and get togethers. Let me give you an example; we were faced with two engagements on Christmas Eve we had a choice 1) we could cram both in or 2) we could choose one relax, enjoy and forgo the other. We went with option #2 and we had a great time. Greg 2.0 exchanged gifts with his cousin and the looks on their faces was well worth making that choice. Yeah a couple people got upset but you can't please everyone and trying to please everyone just ain't worth it. Overall my family had four get togethers in less than 24 hours. We choose to attend two of them, one on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas Day. I had someone on Christmas Day say to me 'just too many places to go", I looked at him and said "commit to one and call it a day." It is just not worth stressing yourself and your family over trying to run all over town going to parties and such. Don't blame the season for your scrooge attitude look in the mirror and realize you are the one that made the choice.
